Couples & Romantic Therapy

Couples & Romantic Therapy at NW Treatment supports partners—whether dyads, triads, quads, or other configurations—in navigating relational complexity with skill, curiosity, and compassion.

Therapeutic Philosophy

Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, Northwest Treatment’s relational work is anchored in humanistic and trauma-informed practices. This means:

  • Encouraging each person’s voice without diminishing another’s

  • Recognizing that each partner brings a unique history of relationships, including attachment injuries, past trauma, and identity challenges

  • Prioritizing safety, mutual respect, and curiosity as the foundation for change

Affirming Queer and Non-Traditional Relationships

This service is designed specifically to affirm all forms of consensual romantic and relational structures, including queer, nonbinary, polyamorous, kink-friendly, and non-monogamous partnerships. A trauma-informed relational approach attends to power dynamics, minority stress (especially in queer relationships), and past wounds that can surface in connection and communication.

Clinical Skills and Staff Excellence

Therapists facilitating couples therapy bring extensive certification and training in both relationship science and trauma psychology. They’re adept at supporting couples in learning:

  • Healthy communication and reflective listening

  • Embodied conflict regulation skills

  • Repair strategies after ruptures

  • Co-creation of meaning and shared goals

Because this work honors each person’s lived experience and cultural identity—including gender and sexual orientation—it can be especially powerful for 2SLGBTQIA+ couples who have historically lacked affirming relational support.

Therapy can be scheduled on flexible days and times—including evenings and Saturdays—so that engagement is accessible and sustainable.
